Perhaps, that has something to do with his good knowledge of behaviour psychology, which he also puts to good use to unearth some of the most complex breaches. Meet Akhilesh Tuteja, Global Cyber Security practice Co-leader and Head of the IT Advisory practice for KPMG in India – the man who is considered to be a mentor by many of India’s infosec leaders.
Armed with a BTech (gold medallist) from MBM Engineering College, Jodhpur, Tuteja found his true calling in consulting when he joined KPMG. There he has advised over 200 clients on matters relating to cyber security, IT strategy, selection of technologies and helped them realize the business benefits of technology.
He also heads the Risk Consulting practice for KPMG in India and is a thought leader in the area of enterprise risk management. Tuteja has worked with regulators and industry bodies in developing framework and approaches for effective risk management and has also played an active part in developing security and privacy frameworks for the banking industry in India.
Tuteja is passionate about following developments in the area of Information Technology. Tracking technology’s potential in creating new opportunities as well as threats for businesses, he believes in addressing the issues of IT risks in a holistic manner, especially through application of user behaviour analytics.
Advising clients on matters relating to cyber security strategy, transforming cyber security posture and dealing with cyber incidents, Tuteja brings a unique blend of business and technical skills. This has helped him work across cultures and successfully lead complex consulting engagements in over 40 countries. This has given him the opportunity to work on some very large programs of national importance.
The dynamic nature of the consulting business his excites him. But, what excites him even more is ability it gives him to make a deep impact on lives. And, he is making good on that promise. A case in point is Guinness World Record for conducting the largest computer security lesson at multiple locations, at the same time.
As part of the firm’s Corporate Citizenship initiative—KPMG Global Cyber Day—a program conceptualized to educate young children to be cyber safe, Tuteja and his team covered a record breaking over 1,26,000 students across 51 countries.
A thought-leader with sharp business acumen, he works closely with business leaders, stakeholders and influencers across the ecosystem to reposition cyber security as ‘a profit and growth driver’ rather than ‘a risk mitigation measure.’ For his clients, this has helped translate cyber risk management into insights that unlock better outcomes and lasting competitive advantage resulting in enhanced brand positioning and customer trust.
During his career at KPMG, spanning over 23 years, Tuteja has been instrumental in establishing as well as scaling the firm’s IT consulting, Shared Service Outsourcing, Cyber Security and Data & Analytics businesses in India.
