Data is the new oil in the digital world and at the heart of everything we do today. Data is being created now faster than at any point in history. The most recent reports suggest that the digital universe is going to expand to the size of 44 zettabytes by this year; this is equivalent to a billion terabytes. When data drives everything, its privacy is of utmost importance.

One of the foremost voices leading the data privacy discussions and debates in India is Shivangi Nadkarni, Co-founder, and CEO, Arrka Consulting. Talk to her and you can feel her passion for empowering organizations to address their risks associated with information. Needless to say, today Shivangi has earned the reputation of a leading authority on privacy matters. Today, her views on the matter are widely quoted not only in India but also globally.

The latest in her list of achievements is her selection to serve on the Asia Advisory Board of IAPP – International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAAP) – the world’s largest and leading body on matters of #dataprivacy. IAAP is a resource for professionals who want to develop and advance their careers by helping their organizations successfully manage these risks and protect their data.

In a country where privacy has traditionally been seen as a matter of least concern with people doling out their personal information without much consideration for ramifications, she has been instrumental in building sustained awareness over the years. Of late, Shivangi has also been quite vocal on the Personal Data Protection Bill and the ramifications of WhatsApp’s privacy changes announcement.

With a marked shift happening towards a privacy-aware India and the debates on the subject getting louder, Shivangi and her team are helping guide India Inc. navigating through this data privacy maze.

Shivangi’s over two decades of experience in the security domain spans across leading organizations such as Sify and Wipro in a variety of roles before she embarked on the entrepreneurial journey with Arrka.

In 2012, she co-founded Arrka along with Sameer Anja with the aim of bringing data privacy and protection within the reach of each and every organization that needs it. With Arrka, one of the early players in this field, she was able to plug the much-needed gap in the Indian market around consultation and implementation of privacy programs.

Shivangi is a speaker, writer, and also conducts and serves as a faculty on advanced Data Privacy & GDPR training programs. She has authored the first book on Data Privacy in India for the Data Security Council of India (DSCI) – a Nasscom Body – as part of their new DCPP Certification program.

Shivangi holds a bachelor’s degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering from BITS, Pilani, and a master’s degree in Management from the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta. She is also a CISSP, CISA, CIPT, CDPSE, and DCPP.
